Windrose Gameplay Review: Discovering New Islands and Quests

Boat Access

Got my first chance to sail the sea in Windrose and I must admit I did enjoy it. Let’s dive into the latest findings as we continue our playthrough. I reached a significant milestone on my initial starting Island when my first boat appeared, initiating a task to sail to another Island. However, I decided to delay boarding the boat, as I wanted to thoroughly explore and complete a comprehensive review of my first Island, uncertain if I would be forced to abandon everything behind while discovering new islands.

Buried Treasure?

There is an early mission to find a buried treasure on your island. Once I was able to travel inland I found the four skeletons and crafted a shovel to dig up a treasure chest. When I tried to open it a slew of enemies popped out and quickly put me to death. I was determined to start leveling up my gear to try to complete this mission. I went back to gathering to upgrade my weapons to level 4 and clothes to all level 3. Once more I was unsuccessful to survive so I moved on to another easier task.

Island Discovery

Foggy Perspective while Discovering New Islands

I started a new adventure on the island to ensure I found every inch of the island to somewhat feel accomplished. Once I did so I noticed advisary ships popping up on the map and I started to feel a little bit more of the urge to set sail and find a new island or explore a different location. I do find there are maybe two types of gamers:

  • Completion Gamers (those who look to complete every task in area before moving on)
  • Speed Run Gamers (those who look to quickly complete the main objectives only)

Setting Sail for New IslandS

It was time to board my tiny boat. I chose the vessel and set sail across the ocean. I spotted my first landmass on the horizon and pointed the bow in that direction. You can also find floating materials, and you have the option to jump out of the boat to swim and gather resources as needed.

  • The Visuals of the water is awesome
  • Sailing a boat is relatively easy and fast to learn
  • I wonder if I can swim under water?
  • The game really starts to feel more adventurous with the ability to set sail

The waves and vast ocean is peaceful in a way.

I found land and I hope there are some good treasures on it.

I explored the new island, and for the most part, it was very similar to my original starting island. It had some new flowers that I picked and discovered. Please note that if you die on the new island, you will respawn at your last island or location. Therefore, be prepared to sail back, and luckily, the Windrose developers make calling the boat back very easy.

Recap

It was very satisfying to complete most of the initial quests on my starting island. The sailing mechanics and visuals were excellent, and I really felt the game coming to life with this new mode of exploration. As I navigated the waves, I became increasingly immersed in the vibrant world around me. I am looking forward to continuing my missions to possibly build a bigger boat and embark on even more thrilling adventures. The horizon is just the beginning of my journey!
