Welcome to the latest WheneverGamer Review! This time, we’re diving into the captivating world of Windrose. Windrose is an incredibly popular, procedurally-generated pirate survival game (formerly known as Crosswind) that features thrilling building, crafting, combat, ship navigation, and character creation, and is currently in Early Access.
Character Creation & Intro
The game loaded directly into the character creation screen, which was more detailed than I expected. There are many characters to choose from, along with options to customize their features and create your own pirate.
Once you start the game, the early cutscenes and tutorial are not very good, but I think this part will improve with future updates as it gets closer to the full release.

Initial Quests & Gameplay
The game feels incredibly smooth and operates much like Enshrouded, but even more thrilling! The stunning graphics truly mesmerize, and the ability to select items and chop up seaweed for fiber is surprisingly satisfying and addictive!
The early tasks to gather resources for your fire, workbench, and tent are fast, but the user interface doesn’t clearly indicate what you need or offer helpful tips. It’s unclear if more content will be added or if the game is intended to focus more on exploration and survival.

You are charged to hunt boars to gather enough material to unlock your next crafting skills. While trudging off into the forest I ran into a pack of wild dodo birds and they gave me a quick death. Beware that being killed will result in your items being lost and it will require you to gather them back.
After defeating the boars, my next task was to make new shoes, which was crucial for my character’s development. I soon realized I had to check the resources I collected and set up a crafting table. There wasn’t much guidance on this, so be ready to explore and check your quests or menus for assistance.

Initial Thoughts
I am excited to continue this game and see what adventures await. Note that upon my first time logging in, there does not seem to be a way to pause the environment, so if you are looking to give this game a try, be sure to carve out some time to give it a go.
